Friends of the Castle Rock Fair, (FCRF) is a
volunteer organization established to support
the Fair Board in its efforts to move the fair
buildings safe from Cowlitz River flooding.
After almost a year, we were granted a
IRS tax exempt status to support youth projects
at the fair.
With our new tax exempt status, we
decided to direct our attention to
replacing/relocating the youth animal barns.
Our first funding project is the “Buy
a Brick” campaign, an ongoing promotion,
that offers commemorative bricks to the
community. The commemorative bricks are engraved
to honor a family member, friend, pet, etc. We
have selected Ken’s Engraving of Longview as our
engraver. Each brick can have three lines with
up to 18 characters/spaces per line. The price
per brick is $40.00. For an additional five
dollars clip art can be added.
This reduces the characters to15
characters/spaces per line. The bricks will be
used to landscape the upper level of the fair
grounds. Order forms can be found at
participating merchants in Castle Rock.
Our next fund raising project came as we
explored ways to increase attendance at the fair
which would increase the gate revenue. We
examined the idea of making the fair more
entertaining for all ages. The concept of having
a carnival for kids emerged. Our youth members
named the carnival The Quarter Arcade because
all the games were to be priced at 25 cents per
player.
We were able to build and man ten
games last year.
The games included the Lollipop
Tree, Duck Pond, Fishing Hole, Milk Bottle Toss,
Goldfish Toss, Bean Bag Toss, Tic-Tac-Toe,
and Quarter Horse Race. We had Tattoo
and Face Painting booths. The Castle
Rock Bakery sponsored the Cupcake Walk by
donating dozens of cupcakes. Free activities
were included - Jack’s Slide Ride, Jack’s Water
Pump Race, and a Cow Train Ride courtesy of
Zion’s Black Bull Ranch. It took a lot of help
to make this project successful.
This year we are planning to expand the
Quarter Arcade. We need volunteers to man the
booths. In addition, we are offering booth
entrepreneurship. If you or an organization is
interested in taking the responsibility for the
total operation of a booth, we welcome your
interest. We welcome
someone/organization/business to sponsor a booth
financially. We would appreciate any help we can
get. Fair dates are July 19th-21st.
Quarter Arcade will be open on
Thursday 7:00-10:00 and Friday/Saturday noon to
10:00.
Please call Marti 274-4320 for
information.
If you can’t serve during the fair but would
like to support it, we meet every first Monday
of the month, January through June, at the
Castle Rock Fair in the Home Ec. Building, 7:00
PM.
